Spam Musubi: A Hawaiian Comfort Food

Spam Musubi Hawaiian Recipe

Spam Musubi is a popular Hawaiian snack or lunch, combining savoury and umami flavours. It’s a simple dish consisting of a block of rice topped with a slice of Spam and wrapped in nori.

Yields:  8 servings  Prep time:  15 minutes  Cook time:  5-7 minutes

Ingredients


  • 1 can (12 ounces/340 grams) Spam, sliced into 1/4-inch thick slices
  • 2 cups (500 ml) cooked white rice
  • 1 package (8 sheets) nori seaweed

 

Method


  • Prepare the Spam: Grill or pan-fry the Spam slices until crispy.

  • Form the Musubi: Place a sheet of nori on a clean surface, shiny side down. Press a scoop of cooked rice onto the nori.

  • Add the Spam: Place a slice of grilled Spam on top of the rice.

  • Wrap the Musubi: Roll the nori tightly around the rice and Spam.

  • Cut and Serve: Cut each Musubi into bite-sized pieces and serve immediately.
