A tasty Cambodian Beef Dish

Lok Lak Cmbodian street food recipe

Lok Lak is a popular Cambodian dish featuring grilled beef cubes, often served with a tangy lime dressing, a fried egg, steamed rice, and a salad.

Yields:  2-3 servings  Prep time:  15 minutes  Cook time:  5-7 minutes

Ingredients

 

  • 1 pound (500 grams) flank steak, cut into 1-inch cubes
  • 1 tablespoon soy sauce
  • 1 tablespoon fish sauce
  • 1 tablespoon lime juice
  • 1 clove garlic, minced
  • 1/2 teaspoon black pepper

For the dipping sauce:

  • 1/4 cup (60 ml) lime juice
  • 2 tablespoons fish sauce
  • 1 tablespoon sugar
  • 1 clove garlic, minced
  • 1 red chili, sliced
  • 1/4 cup (60 ml) water

For serving:

  • Steamed rice
  • Cucumber salad (cucumber, carrot, and red onion, sliced and mixed with lime juice and fish sauce)
  • 1 egg, fried

Method

 

  • Marinate the steak: In a bowl, combine the steak cubes, soy sauce, fish sauce, lime juice, garlic, and black pepper. Marinate for at least 30 minutes.

  • Grill the steak: Grill the steak cubes over high heat for 2-3 minutes per side, or until desired level of doneness.

  • Prepare the dipping sauce: In a small bowl, combine the lime juice, fish sauce, sugar, garlic, and chili. Add water to adjust the thickness.

  • Fry the egg: Fry an egg to your desired level of doneness.

  • Serve: Serve the grilled steak cubes with steamed rice, cucumber salad, the dipping sauce, and a fried egg.
