Yaroa Dominican Republic Street Food Recipe

Yaroa is a popular Dominican street food, often described as a layered masterpiece. It typically consists of French fries, meat (usually ground beef or chicken), cheese, and various sauces.

Yields:  4 servings  Prep time:  20 minutes  Cook time:  20-25 minutes

Ingredients

 

  • 1 pound (500 grams) ground beef
  • 1 onion, chopped
  • 2 cloves garlic, minced  
  • 1 teaspoon ground cumin
  • 1/2 teaspoon paprika
  • 1/4 teaspoon cayenne pepper
  • 1/2 cup (125 ml) tomato sauce
  • 1 pound (500 grams) French fries
  • 1 cup (250 grams) shredded mozzarella cheese
  • 1/4 cup (60 ml) mayonnaise  
  • 1/4 cup (60 ml) ketchup

 

Method

 

  • Cook the meat: In a large skillet, cook the ground beef with the onion, garlic, cumin, paprika, and cayenne pepper until browned. Add the tomato sauce and simmer for 5 minutes.

  • Fry the fries: Fry the French fries according to package directions or fry them yourself until golden brown and crispy.

  • Assemble the Yaroa: Layer the fries on a plate. Top with the meat mixture and shredded cheese. Drizzle with mayonnaise and ketchup.
